Isabel knocked down a lot of trees. There are still places in and around Baltimore without power. Also the Inner Harbor had a four-foot storm surge- good thing the Taney was in drydock!

I had a fallen tree hit my garage, and it looks totaled. Insurance man is coming tomorrow so we'll see. The good thing is, there were three houses that it could have hit. So a garage is not a big deal, especially compared to what North Carolina got. The other guys came thru without a scratch, although Rick was without power till last night. We were back on the job as usual Monday morning.

East coast weather report

Just talked to Coy Tillett in Manteo, N.C. about a trip we are planning. The winds are near 50 mph with rain. The 'eye' is expected to hit mid afternoon. Coy and his brother own/run Coastal Concrete and have lived there all their life. Structures built to code seem to fair very well. The rest become drift wood and trash.

We are working this morning but I told my guys to pack up at noon. I don't want them out in this. Metro shut down and the federal government is closed. -DF

We worked the steam boiler job this morning

but I shut down the project at 2 PM, the wind was starting to pick up and was slightly bending the smaller trees. We ran the trucks back to the shop and went home. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

The crew had agreed to work a couple hours late yesterday since we knew this was coming.

All Baltimore area school systems are closed tomorrow, many banks and other businesses in the area will be closed too. I won't be surprised if Rick keeps our company closed tomorrow as well.

Update from Baltimore

Very windy in Baltimore but not much rain so far. Isabel's "eye" is expected to pass to our west- thru eastern Virginia to western Pennsylvania- and lose strength along the way. Looks like we won't get the worst- but keep Dan Foley, Murph (if he hasn't made it to Wetstock) and other Wallsters in those areas in your thoughts, along with all in North Carolina.
