Plumber's revolt

Don't be so hard on yourself. I don't personally know anybody who scorns excellence in plumbing, or considers it a humble profession.
In fact, at least around the Long Island area plumbers act more like movie stars or rock stars. I think I'd have a better chance of getting Michael Jackson to show up at my house than a plumber.
Any homeowner who has ever made an attempt to do their own plumbing, as I have, has a tremendous respect for the pipe weilding artisans.
I've noticed from hanging out on the wall that quite a few of you are also pretty decent philosophers.

plumber's revolt
I've heard all I care to hear about plumbers. I am one and proud of it (agree that there are some pretty bad ones...same goes for heating techs!!!). Thought I would share this tidbit with you guys.....
"The society which scorns excellence in plumbing because plumbing is a humble activity and tolerates shoddiness in philosophy because it is an exalted activity will have neither good plumbing nor good philosophy. Neither its pipes
not its theories will hold any water. (John Gardner quote)

Revolting...
is the word I should have used to describe the way that this guy in my last post did heating work.
It had nothing due to the fact that he was also a plumber.
Dave Yates once told me that the best radiant guys in the bussiness are plumbers. I would have to agree with him on that issue.0 -

Thanks for the reply. My "quote" was quite tongue-in cheek. There seems to be some animosity amoungst heating guys towards plumbers. I take great pride in what I do, both plumbing and heating. There are good and bad people in all walks of life, and I see good and bad tradesmen every day. I do a lot of fixin' of the bad guys work, too. I've been at it for over 40 years and don't expect it will ever change. I hope and trust that you can get a plumber when you need one, 'cause what does MJ know about pipes????

I always thought plumbing and heating went hand in hand. Either way, I've got tremendous respect for anyone who can put a plumbing and/or heating system together and make it work.
I do concrete and steel restoration and waterproofing. Most of my work is on parking garages.
I've been told by engineers that I've worked with and I believe that my work is very good.
I refuse to cut corners where others might and would get away with it.
It's really just a matter of pride. Is it worth it to spend 50% more time to make the job 10% better? It really doesn't matter if it's worth it, it's the only way I know.

Radiant guys make good plumbers!
There was a time when "plumbing and heating" went hand in hand.
With the advent of forced air systems the connection faded and tin knockers became the "heating guys".
Wet heat is best left to wet heads, whether they be plumbers or not. Only a wet head really understands the "why" and "how" of wet heat.
In my area, plumbers almost never get to be the heating guy. Even with hydronic systems, the forced air companies get the call most of the time.
The cream ALWAYS rises to the top and your skills will not go unrewarded.
When we do it right, we make the world a better place............................................................................one home at a time.
