Sad day for \"Hoosiers\" fans

For all of the fans of the greatest sports movie of all time (my opinion) it is a sad time. Kent Poole, 39, who played a member of the fictional Hickory Huskers, took his own life last Thursday. Poole delivered the famous line near the end of the movie, "Let's win this one for all the small schools that never had a chance to get here." Poole had been fighting depression but even his closest friends didn't know about his mental health before he was found hanging from a tree.

It is sad when someone hides an illness so well that others cannot even offer help. Hug your family and tell them how important they are.

    Kent was

    one of my assitant basketball coaches when I played in high school. We used to play pickup in the summers down at the courts. It is so sad that one never realizes how many lives he has touched and then this happens.

    In perspective, maybe a kind word may have helped and I have to ask myself, given the people that I meet on a daily basis, have I helped to make their day better by being polite, smiling, saying hello? Chances are Kent was deeper in depression than a kind word could have alleviated, but everyone walks a path and maybe I can make a difference before that path goes so far bad that nothing will help.

    I hate to ramble about something non heating related, but I was shocked when I heard he ended his life.

    I lift up my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?
    My help comes from the LORD the Maker of heaven and earth.
    He will not let your foot slip- He who watches over you will not slumber;
    Indeed, He who watches over Israel will neither slumber no sleep.
    The LORD watches over you - The LORD is your shade at your right hand;
    the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
    The LORD will keep you from all harm - He will watch over your life;
    The LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

    When you get to the end of your rope, know that Someone is there to steady it.

    Well said Henry

    We are all here for more than just our daily routines. Read Ephesians 2:10, it always blows me away to think that there are things planned for me to do. The question becomes will I recognize them and do them when the opportunity is there.
