pex-al-pex with cast iron

Was wondering about thoughts on using 1/2" multicore to supply cast iron radiators to a second floor, they are currently being supllied with 3/4" black and I have to relocate risers into the wall. I have used it on copper convectors and it worked great.
Any thing different with the high mass cast iron radiators that would make it not recomended.
Thanks, Ant

If you can
move enough btu's through the 1/2". 5/8 or 3/4" may be needed depending on the load and length of runs. Might consider a home run approch to each location. Try this link for ideas.

Works great!
We did exactly that in a very large mansion this past year in order to convert from two-pipe steam (sorry MD) and offer up multiple zoning with multiple remotely injection panels. A number of those panels then include telestats for room-by-room zoning. The Viagra PEX runs (especially in basement hallways where it is exposed to view) hold their shape quite nicely.

Dave.
Are you sure that was the brand of PEX you used? If so, bending it must be an excruciating experience.

precautions where well water is utilized
Absolutely, however if you're filling the system with well water that has a high iron content, the piping tends to orient itself in a northernly direction!

Hard stuff to bend
once it's been treated with the new VIAGRA anti-flexing treatment :O)
Does it need heat to get the kinks out.
Couldn't resist.

we use
hangars with female threads! As long as you maintain a slight distance, there can be no mating of the surfaces & the rigidness remains in tact.
