    Opus boiler

Has anybody installed an Opus (burnham) oil boiler. Do you like it and what kind of pricing did you get? Thanks

Although the contractors that monitor and post here are some of the best in the business, realistically they are only a small percentage of the contractors in the business. I can assure you that there are plenty of Opus installations out there. I have seen many of them and have digital photos of several. E-mail me with your address or at least what part of the country you are from and I will be more than glad to put you in touch with contractors that have installed these and continue to do so. Thanks for the interest.

Do Opus boilers leak as much as regular Burnham boilers? 1 year not long ago I installed 4 V-73 boilers in the same house. HMM... does every opus come with its own five pail of boiler sealer???

    bad year..

having cleared that up they did have some problems w/ the V7.Probably why they changed design to more like the old V-1. I have heard that was a really good boiler. Live and learn I guess.

    You heard right

the V1 series was a real nice unit. Here's one- a V-14- that's 20 years young, still Burnhaming with the original ABC-Sunray burner.

    Leakers

As a Burnham dealer I will say this > at least they faced the problem, fixed it,end of story. Now if they could just make the 8 series lighter, those boilers are heavy lol!John@Reliable
  • Sorry to hear

about the problems you had with that job Heatmaker. As most here on The Wall already know, there were some difficulties with stress cracks occuring with the V-7 boilers. These problems were corrected back in 1997 and the series was replaced with the V-8 series about 4 years ago. All of the possible causes of these boilers suffering stress cracks were addressed with the new series and the V-8 has been a boiler that has been very well accepted everywhere.

As John said, we have never buried our head in the sand whatsoever regarding the difficulties with the V-7. We have established a hotline to call to properly handle replacements of these boilers and will continue to back you in these predicaments. As far as why you have encountered this 3 times in the same house, I have a question to ask. Was this a water or steam application?

As far as the Opus Oil-fired boiler is concerned, I will gladly refer you to various contractors in the Northeast that have installed these and like them a lot! Just e-mail me with your location and I'll be glad to help.

    My experience

has been that Burnham is a straight shooter type of company. Whenever I've had an issue (and they've been few & far between) with one of their products, I have found their representatives to be outstanding.

They have not run away from problems, unlike a number of other companies I've dealt with and from my perspective, they have faced whatever demons they've encountered.

My hat is off to them for their ongoing committment to customer service. They are one of the most approachable companies involved in hydronics in our country.
