Munchkin Vision 1

I have been studying the Munchkin product but have not had a use for it. I went to a Vision 1 training session today and that package puts the Munchkin as a simple to install water heater. We do a lot of raypaks and other commercial water heaters as well as large fire tube boilers. Does anyone have experience using the Munchkin domestic water system with or with out vision 1 ???? They also told us about vision 2 and a new 399 mbh unit which can be connected and staged up to 8 boilers with 40 stages of modulation. Being an older sort I still am not convinced that lightweight stainless and copper tubes belong in boilers but that is where technologhy is taking us !!

Thanks, Kevin

    Vision 1

The Vision 1 control is now standard equipment on ALL of our Munchkin installs, though we do have several units that were installed prior to the Vision 1.

We have never used a Munchkin as a domestic water heater, though all of our installs have included idirect fired units.

HTP has an EXCELLENT product and an equally EXCELLENT support team! I would HIGHLY recommend the Munchkin boiler!

And if Jeff "Munchkin Man" Cook reads this, wait until you see the pics of our recent Voyager install!

I spoke with a tech at Munchkin and he says "never thought of using the Vision 1 for a domestic water control" So I says, can I use it without the outdoor sensor ?? He replies "sure can". So I think this setup will work fine. He told me that the 119 gallon tank is set to work with a 140m unit where we normally see a 199m in a Raypak unit.

    Vision I

Actually, Vision I is ideal for DHW . The concept of Vision I is the ability to operate two water temperatures (ie: High for DHW, Lower for radiant)without secondary mixing. If a Munchkin boiler is going to be dedicated to an indirect, you are only operating at one temperature, and already fully prioritized. The advantage to utilizing Vision I in this case is the ease of installation -(plug in wiring, no external relay).

    VISION 1

In addition to the above statement the vision 1 allows the control to ramp up to full btu rate instantly upon a call for domestic water temp, and can be set from 90* to 185* for domestic water delivery. One can program in to the vision 1 time restrictions of the prioity from 0 to 60 minutes. The prioity will stay energized for the maximum time programed or untill the indirect reaches the set point of the aquastast if so disiered or thermister that is supplied with the vision 1. When the prioity program is satified the indirect pump will run for 5 minutes so as to take addvantage of the BTU'S still in the boiler at normaly 180* and avoid higher temp from being delivered to a low temp media. The central heat zone can now be energized. The central heat temp delivery can be programed from 50* to 203*. It can be used to deliver to a radiant loop or an air handler or a standard baseboard system or anything you can get creative with, and you can select the temp you wish to deliver. Upon enerization of the central heat mode the blower will regulate its self to stay at 16,000 btu's for one minute then up in rate another 16,000 btu's for one minute, and repeat this for six minutes if the media needs the full btu's delivered to the media. This will help control the delivery temp based on the load referenced through the return thermister. An out door rest control is supplied with the vision 1 and one can program a specialized curve or use the factory curve set for use in the easton region. The up coming vision 2 & 3 that were discribed in this sting and are correct. Enjoy

Thanks for the replys, I am looking at these for dedicated domestic service. We do some snow melt and such which is all stand alone. We are a commercial and industrial contractor so our use for small boilers is limited. We see a lot of heat exchangers off the process steam boilers or the district steam system for various applications. The Vision 2 & 3 will open up the ability to use your product in place of Hydrobanks and the like. I will be trying to get one of these 144/119 boiler tank units in on my next need to replace a commercial water heater and again it will be dedicated to domestic hot water supply.
