Couple of questions

1. Does or has anyone added chemicals to rubber radiant systems? Looked at a older house that has solar roll. The system has been separated from the electric boiler via a heat exchanger. Owner feels he needs to put something in there and I don't agree but I wanted to get some input from you guys here.

2. What products are you guys using for corrosion inhibitors/antifreeze and boiler system cleaners. Have an Ancient Birchfield boiler in 8,000 square foot house with all radiators. We drained it and got TONS of sludge out of it. We need to go in and add something to it to clean it, then add new antifreeze to system. In our area, freezing isn't much an issue, but owner had system freeze lots of years ago and had major damage. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

    Check

the ph on the solar roll system. Even with the HX seperation that tube will still allow O2 into the fluid. This will still attack ferrous and non ferrous components. Checking and adding an inhibitor would be a good option.

Try Scott at Rhomar for cleaners and treatment options for both systems 417 862-2600.

    PH levels

    Hi HotRod,

Thanks for the info..I called Scott but have yet to hear back from him. I
have another question regarding the PH levels. I believe we discussed this
before on the wall, but what PH levels should we be looking for in radiant
roll systems? Should it be the same as a cast iron radiator system? How
about with glycol? We are starting to get into allot of maintenance with
older systems and I want to provide the best service we can. I was looking
forward to meeting you at the RPA in Sacramento, hopefully on the next one.
    Talk to you soon,

    More info

The ph will depend somewhat on what is int he system. Generally tyap water will be in the 7.2- 7.5 range. But not always!

Glycol should fall in the 9- 10.5 range. Dow would like to see glycol replaced if it falls below 7.0, as they feel the inhibitor package is beyond salvage.

If it has some other chemical the manufacture would be able to give you acceptable ranges. Any system with aluminum needs to be carefully controlled Rhomar suggests not above 9 ph with their 922 product.

Also try Scott at 417- 860-2998 (cell phone)for more info.
