....test a capacitor that has a bleed resistor installed?
The resistor seems to affect the microfarad reading that my test meter displays. Is there a way to calculate what kind of reading you should see, so that you don't have to disconnect the bleed resistor???

Bleed resistor
John,
You must cut out the bleed resistor to get an accurate reading.

Dan...
...that's the answer I was afraid of. The problem is that the bleed resistor is soldered to the capacitor terminals, and once you cut it, you have to either re-solder it, or re-do it with spade connections. To do so usually requires a whole bunch of fooling around. Why don't they just put spade connectors on the resistors so you can easily disconnect them to test the capacitor?????...or would that just make too much sense?
