Things I understand better today
threads that are priceless and timeless but are in no way in any particular order.
1) Contracting isn't cheap and shouldn't be an impulse purchase.
2) Let us be judged, and hired, on the merits of our accomplishments.
3) If your here, you love heating more than should be allowed for a plumber.
4) By trying to cover themselves, they usually wind up with over- and under-heated rooms and unhappy customers.
5) Since the use of domestic water is nearly completely at the will of the occupants they think problems "solve themselves by modification of human behavior.
6) The art of hydronics deals only with piping that is full and pressurized.
It must be able to work without human intervention regardless of human desire.
7) It's difficult for people to imagine things beyond the range of your sensations.
8) A man that works with his hands, is a laborer. A man that works with his mind is a professional. And a man that works with both his hands and mind...is an artist.
9) The desire to oversize [heating systems] regularly exceeds the sex drive.
10) If people would stick to their areas of expertise and avoid sticking their neck out for a dollar it would save everyone a lot of grief.
11) Without doing a heatloss it is impossible to even have an opinion on how to design a job.
12) Sure experience can get you by, but is it right to sell something that should work instead of a properly designed system that will work, and efficiently?
13) Even cheap jobs must be done right, isn't that why we are called professionals?
14) Wholesaler designs are the bane of our industry from our position. The contractor knows how to install it, but not why.
15) Boy, you gotta understand what you know.
16) Formal training is great, but not required for competency.
17) There's an **** for every seat.
18) Caveat emptor
19) There is still so much to learn.
20) I find it curious that staple-up is BY FAR the most common system resulting in a GENERAL "not enough heat" complaint.
And finally my personal favorite quote:
When there is a **** involved, you can't analyze a situation as if there weren't a **** involved. LOL
Reminder to self; (allways be very careful how I word things on The Wall;-)
Thank all of you. For all you do to help us keep learning.
Gary
