Proof positive its going to be a cold winter

My father-in-law(90+) has always said that the animals and insects know haow to prepare for winter. There' a hornets nest about the size of a basketball out near camp that we check every year. They seem to like this one spot and rebuild there year after year. It is typically 3-4ft off the ground and last year was 6'up on this tree and you know what is was like last winter. I eye-balled the nest last weekend and I'm heading for the southwest!!!!!!!That sucker is 8' up the tree. I sure hope they got it wrong this year, 'cause it ain't a good sign!

Proof positive its going to be a cold winter

My brother from Montana sent me this photo he took last week.

He thinks it is a sign from mother nature that we are going to have a very bad winter!!

Well I haven't seen anything like that

Around here but.......... The geese are flocking, the swallows are gone, we had frost over a week ago and there's color showing in the maples. Some of the old timers are saying we're due for a rough one.

    NOAA says...

For the Northeast, there are equal chances of above or below normal temperatures and the same for precipitation. There will be no El Nino/La Nina effect this year.
