Old Coal Furnace

My mother has a very old Sears Indestructo Coal furnace with hot water heat (yes, the old radiators are still working)(she also has an auxiliary gas furnace attached to this furnace)and the furnace still works. She believes this furnace was made in the 1940's. The only markings are on the furnace door it has 202 on the upper left corner and underneath that it has 817 (the area on the door where the tag would have been is empty). My brother thought that one of the grates had broken during the past winter, and he decided to open the bottom portion of the furnace where the grates are located. With my help, we were able to open the bottom of the furnace, but to our surprise, the screw that attached the grate to the transmission had come out. The grate was bent, so we replaced it with an extra grate that my mother had kept from the previous replacement set she had purchased years ago.
We would like to know if there is an easy way or a trick to get these grates back into the furnace???? We have them laid out exactly the way they came out, so getting them in the furnace in the proper order is not the problem. Any help on this one???? Please email me at emetib@microconnect.net. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.
