It would be interesting to hear what the ins. co. said.
I agree, change it out, or at least put it in the contract so if they say no you have cya'd. Stand firm on the gas lines. Good luck

    Fire Damage

One of our customer’s houses just had a pretty bad fire & thank God no one was hurt! The fire marshal said it started in the electrical panel and worked its way up from there. He also said the fire was contained in the basement because the hot-water system had a pipe pop at a solider joint and the systems water put out the fire. Yeah hydronic heat!

It looks like the boiler and the hot water maker needs to be replaced due to the extreme temps. in the basement; they are both melted. But, should I replace all the copper mains and gas piping also?

    fire repair

Certainly is a good idea to replace it all. Heat can do strange things to piping and joints. Remember that the threads on steel piping is the weakest point.
We do some insurance work with a local "fire truck chaser" and the adjusters almost always allow for total repipe if the damage is bad enough. If you "melted the boiler and indirect" be safe and replace. The next claim could be against you......
And remember to check NEC with regard to clearances around electrical panels for water piping!!!
