How many of you here, REALLY love what you do??????
I'm sure the tally here will be high, but I find too many guys out there at the shows and the supply house that are so-so....menza-menz...it's ok..I LIKE it....type of attitude about what they do everyday...many are in it purely for the bucks. Mad Dog

absolutely
LOVE my work. Gave up on big bucks, makes it easier to have fun with the work. Great joy in my life having customers in this small town greet me on the street with a smile. Or discreetly pay for my dinner w/o me knowing it as a "tip" for being there for them. If they only knew what fun it was to correct a system full of problems successfully !0 -
I love the glory...........
The rep you get for caring and satisfaction from helping is what makes me get up in the morning. The glory of winning the battle that no else would fight. The warm feeling I get when I discover that my name is givin out with out a moments hesitation and they were exicited to tell of the good experience they had with my services. After all if you do what you love the money will always follow. And to survive in this biusness you have to love it. My wife says she's my second wife during the busy seasons because I'm married first to HVAC. I guess she's probably right because I thrive off of the thrill of problem solving and just can't turn away the chance to make a difference. I even dream about it. Man, do I need a hobby.0 -

Ben makes some good points !
To just add 1 more of the finer aspects of this great job.....If I had to schlep to the same place everyday, and do the same thing over and over , day in, day out, I believe I'd go postal in very short order.
The pace changes everyday. Everyday a new challenge! Keeps the old noodle from turning to mush. Chris0 -
Just the Beginning
I love that we are on a "Bell-Curve of Knowledge" that is starting the steep ascent. 10 years from now, I want to look back at all of the building blocks of knowledge and remember that injection pump mixing and outdoor reset were stepping stones, and laugh at how far we have come since those days. Boggles the mind with what new technology or technique will be available to us.
Or, which one of your brilliant minds that frequent the wall will be the next Dan Holohan, Mark Eatherton, Hot Rod, or Paul Pollets.....That list could go on and on.
I joke to my friend Kevin Pulver that someday I will be able to say, "I knew him when..." and would he please autograph his newest book for me.
I love what I do and can't get enough. My wife sighs alot but understands the pilgrimage I am going to make at Wetstock III. Please, if you have the ability to make it. Do.
I am truly fascinated by the posts of "weighing in". When the cumulative total is at 2000 plus years, I hope that we can note that at that time, and with those cumulative years,it would take us back to when a carpenter friend of mine would have been walking the earth telling us that the best is yet to come.
The best is yet to come,
Regards,

once talked about "The Lottery test".
If you hit for mega-millions would you quit your job? If you answer yes without hesitation, you probably need to look for another job.
I'll never leave, I love this.
I might be doing it in a really cool truck though!!!

Looking back
on the twenty something years I've been involved in this trade and it seems like just yesterday I was working with my grandfather, learning to solder. It's amazing how time flies.
I wouldn't change one thing. If I won the lottery I would be back on the job the very next day.

I'll will
die and rot in a basement with my tools!!!!After 27 or so years not counting my Navy time learning the trade..I get a major high when I solve a problem someone else could not..Get a rush w/a customer see me and goes out of the way to say hi!!!Hear a new customer say Mrs. Smith referred you...Plus the job never has a "headach or asks why I was out so late"!!!!!Always looking for something to learn.....Like I said a basement is where I'll be....Richard0 -

Great Question Mad Dog
With predictable results. I'm looking forward to teaching a new generation about hydronics. I had a meeting tonight with the outgoing teacher. He had the passion too. You could see it in his classroom and the things that had been done. He had the students pipe up a boiler and an indirect in the back of the classromm. He also had baseboard piped in and a raidiant ceiling since the floor was not availible. He showed me this "new fangled" variable injection circ and control and I just smiled because he took such pleasure in knowing about the new stuff. I hope to infect the scorched air apprentices with my wethed fever.
