The boiler is a Slant fin oil fired L-30 with coil. The problem is the front plate on the coil look like it is starting to rust through. Is this a common thing with them?
Also looks like it could be hard to change.
has anybody ever changed one?
Thanx Nick

Tankless coil
Hi Nick,
That coil has stainless steel bolts holding it in, so that they won't rust in. If there is no piping in front of it, it should slide straight out.
As with all coils with gaskets, the bolts should be snugged up each year, to keep up with gasket shrinkage, which is what causes most coil gasket leaks. Maintenance can keep these gaskets tight for years.
I don't get many coils rusted through the plate, most are gaskets leaking. Some are failures at the coil (pinhole), but all in all, not many problems come up with the tankless set-up on that boiler. Let me know if I can be of more help.
Here are the part numbers for the L and LD series boilers. The LD has a door with hinges, and the casting has the other half of the hinges. Every other part is the same on both models.
