Just saw on the net (a pop up) go to a sight that sell AC equipment to the home owner. Its time to boycott manfactures that allow this to be done, and the contract who install the equipment.

How is that possible without a refigerant certification?

Thought that was against the law.

It's done all the time Mark

The local distributor sells direct to anything that walks on two legs and waves a check in front of them. The way they get around the refrigerant laws is this. They sell the condenser, line set and evap coil with those leaking SOB threaded fittings. The coil condenser and line come charged with a specific amount of refrigerant and all the "installer" has to do is cram the coil into the plenum, tighten the fittings and wire it. No refrigerant is "handled" so there is no need of certification.

It really ticks me off when someone calls up and I find those fittings invariably leaking. They are a pain to deal with when it comes to leaks. Lot of good our refrigerant laws do, huh?
