What is anyone's opinion about onyx tubing for the use of radiant heating?

    Onyx

Seems like it would make a fine garden hose. I am not confident enough to bury it in anyones house and expect they should pay me to do that. Just one simple man's opinion. If you don't learn from history you are destined to repeat it.
  • We've used it

twice; both times about 5 years ago; both were staple-up. Very easy to use since it's so flexible and both systems are working fine.

Since then, we've gotten used to PEX and prefer it since it's been time tested. Very inert; very tough.

I have 800' at home. In 1997 I did staple up in my addition the wholesaler "helped" with the price for personal use. Some of the framing is 12" o.c. and there is solid blocking so the Onyx was very forgiving on the install [ no kinks] It is great for installing kickspace heaters too. I have done staple up in some really older homes with good results. I have not had any boilers melt down or tubing problems and the people at Watts radiant seem ok too. Pex is good I use it most of the time but if I have a challenging crawl space staple up I would consider the Onyx
