Weil McLain Gold (Question)

check the little hose that comes off the vent right at the boiler... sometimes it will plug up with crap and drain really slow...if you only run the boiler a short while everything will be fine... but if you run it for a longer urn cycle the condesate will build up and cause problems....
But definetly check that bypass... sounds like that is acting funny also..

    Help!

I have a 10-year-old Wiel McLain (GV) Natural Gas fired semi-condensing boiler that is starting to rumble when it shuts down. Of course it has never happened when we have been there but the homeowner says it happens quit frequently.

After shut down the temp rises to approximately 200 degrees and the pressure goes up to about 25 lbs. We have even lowered the high limit to 160, opposed to 180. And it still happens. There are two Taco zone valves and one Honeywell zone valve on the hot-water maker & they are all located on the supply side of the system. And the system pump is located on the return side(mounted inside the boiler). (We installed this ten years ago, before we started pumping forward, and it has NEVER had a problem.

We talked to Weil and they said we should change the mixing cone. When we had the boiler apart changing the cone we also replaced the igniter and boiler thermostat.
We also checked the Extrol pressure and it was sitting @ 12 pounds.

When we got the office this morning we had a call that the boiler was rumbling again!

    Internal bypass

I think this boiler has an internal thermostatic bypass, WM calls it a mixing valve, under a big pipe plug on the top left of the boiler under the top cover, this is basically an automotive thermostat. I think this stat might not be opening enough. If the WM tech rep thinks this may be part of the problem I would change it. The gas pressure should also be checked.

    Is the heat exchanger clean?

Dale gave you the right info. I would call the local Weil Rep. & have him look @ it w/ you. They have changed that set up & he can explain it.
