original question and will pass it on to Jeff Cook at HTP along with your e-mail address. I would attempt to answer your question which I believe is addressed in the new piping diagrams for Munchkin, but better to let the factory people give you the exact information and reasoning behind it.
I will say that after a lot of research on many of the new boiler systems coming into use that some of our conventional thinking must change and realize that there is more than one way to accomplish something.
I am impressed with the Munchkin but do not ever endorse any one product. I advise everyone to look at many of the new products available today. Each of which offers some unique and different ways of economically heating a dwelling. From that point on it is a matter of price and support from the factory.

For those who have never been
Chris A. ( jca on the wall ) just spent the day at Tim's new School in Rhode Island thursday.
Tim had a special school on the Munchkin which was taught by John Sawyer from HTP. Chris came back very pumped up and full of good knowledge.
For those who have never been to one of Tims class's it is WELL worth the time.
Heres some photos of the class room and dispays that are set up. This is a well done teaching enviroment for learning about gas equipment.

Chuck,
Thanks for pointing me there !
I believe the rational is that the main pump is to be used for the boiler only. Secondary pumping is shown in almost all of the neweset drawings . I don't have the info here with me , so I'm just guessing. I do remember that there are specific pumps sent with each different size boiler, (009-0010-0012) . I believe the newer units(wall mounted) will be shipped with smaller sizing instructions.
The class was , unfourtunately crammed into a 1 day type session. I believe with more time , the issue would have been addressed fully .
My thought goes to the fact that if the flow is too slow through the heat exchanger, the temp sensors will ultimatelay ramp the burner down to make the boiler match the required output . The head and flow on the charts could also be assuming "round pipe" and not the boiler tubes and headers in the Munchkin. (kind of a crushed and rectangular tube).Maybe I've guessed wrong, but I hope someone will correct me if I did . Chris0 -
