Will LP gas cause a corrosive action?

LP is sometimes transported in tankers that haul ammonia fertilizer in the summer. The tankers aren't always cleaned thoroughly. Since the ammonia attacks brass I have seen corrosion holes from the inside out on brass range connectors and corrosion in the burners. I would guess You will have alot of trouble getting the propane supplier to discuss this issue.

Will LP Gas cause corrosive action?

I installed 3 Philco roof top units at a church in northern Michigan las fall and this spring when I opened up the control side to access the burners and gas valve, there was alot of corrosive action taking place on the heat exchanger, burners, and controls. There was also a white powdery substance on the burner. The units were field converted to LP gas and the gas pressure and temp rise checked. The gas pressure was also checked with all three units firing at the same time. I re-checked the orifice sizing and gas pressure and everything is still good. The manufacturer's first comments were "what is in the gas" since all three were doing the same thing. I spoke with the Michigan Propane Gas Association and they said sometimes something may be there that would cause a by-product from combustion that could be corrosive when they store it in salt mines then draw it back out for sale. I spoke with my LP provider and he claims this is a normal reaction for LP gas. I just want to be sure. Please respond with any thoughts or idea's. Thank you.

    white stuff

I've had a white stuff build up on CopperFin heat exchangers on LP and a few on natural gas, a little easer to clean being a boiler. Daniel
