in a clients shop he had me look at his geothermal system. I know little about these things but, they have fluid in pipes so...
How much static pressure should there be?
There is no makeup fluid or air removal device. Should be?
Acts air locked.
Another fellow from far away came and looked at it and made some suggestions about the above and am checking with you'all.
Am concerned about the fluid, owner mentioned methonal or ethanol. Hope he meant glycol. I can check with the original installer, we're on somewhat friendly terms.
My hydronics training say these above things should be done and my instincts say check it out.
And I'll get rid of the rubber hoses and clamps and replace with copper. And add some isolation valves and supports and....
As always your advice is appreciated.

Be careful
what you remove. A Geothermal HP is just as delicate a peice of equipment as the boiler you worked on. Get as much info as you can before you start. Methanol is a common antifreeze in Geo's. Don't dilute it down too much or you may freeze HX or loops. Leave the rubber hoses in place. More than likely they are rated for gas, just like the one's at the gas station. They will be just fine for the methanol, they also provide a bit of vibration isolation.
I run an open system, no loop pressure needed. But you need to know how it was set up, pressurized or not, when it was installed.
Like I said, get as much info as possible. I would help if you need it. Let me know0
