Had to relight pilots last week off due to gas work outside. Lady had an ancient coal boiler converted to gas. The beast was packed in an asbestos sarchophagus?. Anyway, the burner spreader or deflector plate was laying in the bottom. Replaced the thing and all was ok. surprisingly no soot in heat exchanger. I had to ask "has your heat been working ok?" She said it hasn't worked since they've been there (about two years). Only one radiator got a little warm and high fuel bill. I didn't fire the thing with the spreader off but could only imagine a 1-1/2" or 2" tube of flame shooting straight through the boiler and possibly into the flue. Sheesh. She said they had it checked and were told something was missing...

Finally I have purchased an el cheapo digital camera and hope to post pics of some of the garbage I run across if I can figure out how to size properly for quick loading.

now you look like a heating god....you'll have her work forever once she feels heat from all radiators...life is good...

couldn't afford the heating bills. Offer to reduce her bills by 50% and throw in a condensing boiler/DHW heater.
