Tall York replacement

when we got there . The boiler itself is about 5 1/2 feet tall , and it doesn't fit out this way , so we have to cut the wall out behind in a hallway ( pic 2 ) .

Oh yeah , my partner Kenny tells me the homeowner has a plaque with my name on it , and shows me whats hanging on the wall - I couldnt stop laughing .

  • We used a Burnham V83

The upstairs zone was originally gravity feed , so we connected it into the main zone to control it a little better . My partner Ken cut the sheetrock , studs and cement board , which has steel mesh in it . You can count on at least 3 or 4 cuts to the arms and hands because of the mesh .

    As usual-

great job! How much do you think they'll save on oil? I'll bet around 30% or so..........

  • The customer said

he was going to put in a steel door . Behind the boiler is all open to the left - plenty of fresh air .
  • I would say around 30 %

is the right number . We recently installed a new zone off of one of these Tall Yorks - not this job though . It took 25 minutes to go from 80 degrees to 160 . I asked the customer to time it , and then told him it takes 5 minutes on the average for a new boiler to do the same thing . Thanks Steamhead .
  • Me and Kenny

have been friends since we were 15 and working in Child World . I can't remember how many times he made me laugh like an idiot on the job . I'm suprised we werent thrown out of houses yet.

Here's one I still crack up about that happened 10 years ago - we were working in a basement with a low ceiling in Brooklyn . Kenny is pretty tall and always manages to hit the low hanging lights . But this time while bringing down a milk crate of fittings , he hits his head at the bottom of the stairs - on the one remaining light in the basement - and launches down 3 steps...and falls right in the milk crate . He looked like a baby being dropped off at an orphanage . Sadly , the last bulb was busted , but Kenny was OK .

    nice job

nice job one question isnt that burnham boiler side clean out plates. if it is is there any room to realy clean it properly. nice job though.jg.
  • Nope

If we are lucky , we have 6 inches of clearance on either side . Theres no way to favor one side or the other when the boiler is under the stairs in a closet . But I will tell you one thing - a serviceman is gonna be able to clean this one out a hell of alot easier than that York . Thanks JG .

    Andy, Mark and I (SE)

Always figure we haven't been working unless at least one of us is bleeding. No blood, no work being done. The other day it was Mark. He came barreling out of the overhead garage door, making a hard right turn for the porch because it was raining nice balmy 42* rain. Ran smack into the carriage house type exterior light along side the garage door and laid himself flat out on the cement. Perfect height to whack him right on the top of the head. No stitches but darn close to it. We're all still laughing about that. Even Mark

    Coil

Hey Ron, Great job, as usual. Please explain the domestic coil piping??

    al
  • Yeah , it looks a bit weird

It's not the way I normally pipe it . The 2 1/2 pipes going horizontal , just below the smoke pipe - the top one is the cold and tees down into the coil and the pressure reducer . The lower one is the mixing valve and the hot outlet going to the left . Thank you Al .

    Burnham clean out

While clean out covers are on the side and easy to remove, you can also clean out from top.Adds about 15 min. to job, remove flue pipe, jacket top, etc.John@Reliable
