Questions
1)When designing a suspended floor system over a protected, but unheated space...ie. Basement, garage... do you assume the space is unheated or heated in ADS? Seems to be in between, like cold partitions.
2) When methods do you use to install standard aluminum heat transfer plates (ie Rauhau, Wirsbo)...do staples hold well in both plywood/ osb and in old pine subfloors?
3) In slabs, when using PexA how do you treat the stress joints....sawcut, troweled, etc? The maufacturers seem to have different opinoins on this.
Thanks ALL!

Question 1
There is no heat loss from the room to the space below. A 70 degree room can't lose heat to an 80 degree floor. I'm assuming that the whole floor is heated.
There IS a loss from the SYSTEM to the space below, however. Hope this helps.0 -
here goes
1, i treat it as a heated space if a foundation, unheated if a garage figuring a well sealed basement stays much warmer than a unheated garage, i figure i also get a bonus by using foil backed r-12, instead of bubble wrap
2, i got this one from hot rod i use an old/older porter cable roofing nailer that takes 1/2 inch nails, a good friend uses an 1-1/4 crown air type stapler with good results
3, i lay out 12" pieces of gray plastic electrical conduit [for my count] then slide them on the pex and wire tie down at the joints its a little awkward but works well for me

well...
1. I treat the area below as UNheated...better to be conservative...
2.I have used an electrical stsple gun...yes the Advantec is hard stuff.
3.The way I have had good luck w/ is to staple down to the foam w/ the 2" staples and put a 6" piece of armaflex centered at the sawed joint Making darn sure that the pipe won't float up during the pour....kpc0
