Nice joint , kind of reminds me of the reform school....

Sorry , just had to throw in a Stooges line for that one . Nice looking piping for the LLH . I'm coming to like the way black pipe tends to keep itself in line , as oppesod to trying to keep a flat line with copper fittings .

I've tried the many ways suggested to keep copper fittings straight, but alas , have found them to be marginal ....at best . Nice looking job ! Chris

    Herweyer house start to finish

We wrapped up and packed out of this job today. Actual heated sq. ft. is 5,140. We installed panel rads and 500 sq ft of suspended tube (for floor warming and additional heat in a couple marginal areas) in this beautiful home on the banks of the Clam River. I took some of the begining pics back in January when we roughed the place in. The interior is just about all tongue and groove wood, walls and ceilings both.
The HO's hobby room is solid black walnut! I would've taken pics of that but it doesn't do justice to it. Other woods in the house are cherry, hickory, white cedar, red cedar (aromatic type) ash and maple.

The heart of the system is a Vitodens 8-32 condensing boiler. I sized all the rads so design temp can be satisfied with an average water temp of 160*. This being the case, the Vito will spend most of it's life in condensing mode, maximizing efficiency. The HO liked the idea that when he lit one of the three wood burning appliances in the house, the rads near it would shut down while the rest of the place would still maintain temp. This was a far cry from the two furnace fiasco that was proposed to him initially.

Let's see.... what else? You'll notice that there is a plate type HX installed in the return line to the boiler. The HO wants to install an outdoor wood boiler in the event that LP goes to $2.00 per gallon like it did here a couple years ago. All we have to do from this point is pipe the wood boiler into the HX and let it rip. The wood boiler will run on the same reset curve as the Vito, shifted up 20* to allow for good heat transfer in the HX. Works like a charm.

Near boiler piping is black steel pipe and the runouts to all the rads are pex, a mix of 1/2" and 3/4" in size. The underfloor tube is also 1/2" pex. A mix of threaded and grooved fitting were used on the near boiler piping.

The heating system in this house makes NO, NYET, ZERO noise. It is absolutely silent. The HO already commented on how nice that is and how he hadn't anticipated how much he would enjoy that feature.

Picture #196, Note the total amp draw of the system. This is with everything running wide open. Both pumps and the burner. Only 1.98 amps. Not bad for heating 5,000+ sq ft.

Pic #197, close up of the Vitodens display. The boiler water temp shown corresponds to an outdoor temp of 46*.

pics #114 & 206 are before and after of the living room.

Pic #203 near boiler piping showing low loss header, wood boiler HX with bypass, indirect piping.

Pic #204 AHH YES........ the hobby room, described on the heat loss as the Holy of Holies.

    Pic #193 Naked Vitodens

If you live in or are going to build in Northern Lower or Western Michigan we can do the same for you.

Another good reason for radiant, wouldn't want any open flame in that area, also higher humidity is nice to remove the static dischage ignition source. A huge old ammo plant is going back to nature in my area, so much explosive contaminant in the wooden buildings they'll burn them to release the energy in a controlled manner. Kind of like a little c4 to heat the coffee.

    Ditto

We used to do all copper on residential near boiler piping. Now it's black steel period. Stays straight and if you have a decent threader it's not bad work at all. Grooving the pipe is even better. It takes so little time to make a connection, we're going to start using more of that instead of tugging on pipe wrenchs. The fittings cost more but the labor (time )saved is incredible. We bought a 12V Hitachi cordless impact wrench for running the nuts down on the grooved connectors. Works great.

    Pretty standard stuff

Two small baths on second story with showers only. Main level has a master bath with a seperate shower and a medium sized jetted tub plus another 1/2 bath. Your eyes don't deceive you, that's an SS-45 Superstore (45 gl.) indirect. Should provide all they need other than worst case scenario, (everything running at once).

Looks like 30-06 armor-piercing ammo linked up in the front of the shelf. We used to use it in competition, was a bit more accurate than standard ball and quite cheap ammo as hardly no-one wanted it. That is til Clinton and his henchmen shoved a cop killer tag on it and then 30-06 armor-piercing ammo was illegal to sell. Never could understand why, the 30-06 was never a popular criminal caliber, the firearms were too hard to conceal under a sweatshirt and you could not fire it like a garden hose. Hell, if the court system enforced the gun laws today to the letter, the manatory jail terms required by law (that are normally plea-bargained away) would over fill our prison system. But if you or I get caught with a cell phone in our hands while driving= a lost of $100 bucks. Easy job,no trial time, better than trying to catch a hardened criminal plus puts money in the state coffers, unreal. Guess I better get off my soap box. Jon

    Think big

It's a certain cartridge designed by John Browning with a diameter of .50". Commonly used in extreme range sniping and vehicle mounted guns nowadays. A belt of those makes a nice conversation piece. Everybody should have a few feet laying around. (G)

Figures I would screw that up, had nothing to compare the size with, hence thinking it was 30-06 both use the same type links. I shot a quad 50 when I was in VietNam. Quite the attention getter. Jon
