LoopCad - Anyone using it?

I just played with it for a couple hours the other day and it looks to be a usefull program.Their wasn't much for help in the tutorial so it's been a little dificult.

One problem I had is getting the rooms to completely fill with loops, but that may be one of the bugs correctable in their update.

I agree if it were tied in to a heatloss it would be a excellent tool.

    Field testing

Is anyone using the LoopCad software from REX2003? I'm curious about field experience people have had with it.

    LoopCAD

Our guys have been using for the past 2 weeks (only two weeks left for trial version so I had better try all aspects).

Not bad so far, but we have been using AutoCAD for a while and it offers more options that we are used to performing. It is hard to see buying another program that offers us the same speed to generate drawings.

I think it is a great program if you do not currently own a drafting program or have the time to learn one just for a radiant layout.

Still have to test some more.

On the website, there is already a 2nd revision, so those of you that are using it and run into any problems or bugs, be sure to email avenir and they can repair those problems.

I have used it for 5 or 6 basic layouts...........

and it works pretty well. You must remember that this program is in it's infancy and will become a great program over time. What will make it really useful, is when it can be tied into someone's heat loss program seamlessly so it won't be so time consuming to use.

We received the trial CD at REX in Sacramento; tried it for a current job we were doing and was so impressed with it that we purchased the software.

It's a great program with a lot of versalitity. It will draw your loops based on your parameters, i.e. orientation, spacing, pattern, etc. You can modify it very easily and it will give you loop lengths.

It's also a lot easier to learn that Visio or AutoCAD.

    Loop Cad

Apparently it's designed by the same company that did Wirsbo's ADS.It would be great if they talked to each other.

I was impressed with the product and we are featuring it in next week's focus issue on Computer Software in The News.

    User's Guide available

There is a current User's Guide (PDF) available at their website. They are working to improve the tutorial and User's Guide.

An interface between LoopCad and heat loss software is on the agenda.

    Loop cad

I had a problem with it on my older, slower desktop computer. It was too much information for the computer to handle. On my laptop (newer and faster) it would seem ok, except when I got to the point when I tried to connect the loops to the mainifolds, I watched the guys at REX doing the demo, and it didnt seem all that difficult, but I just can't seem to get my brain, fingers, and mouse all to work together at that stage of the drawing process. It would probally be nice for a nitwit like me to have an "auto connect" feature, something that would be enabled only when you have loops in the same room as a mainfold. Just a thought.

    I downloaded it

after seeing a post a week or so ago. I'm doing an 80 x 80 aircraft hanger with 20 x 40 office in one corner. I'm having trouble getting the loops to auto generate. It doesn't want to draw them quite right. It works out to about 19 or 20 300' loops. So I drew them freehand, but then when you try to move the entry point or change entry spacing it wants to auto draw. Then the program crashes when I try to print, using up my trial time. Don't get me wrong, it looks like an awesome program and importing acad dwg's worked pretty neat, but i think there are still some things to be worked out. I did download rev. 2 today but I still have the same problems. Maybe the revision won't modify existing drawings? Guess I'll be getting in touch with tech support.
