Total replacement of baseboard heat?

We have found a house that we would like to by south of Santa Fe, NM. However, this 2400 sq. ft. home is currently heated exclusively with baseboard heating.

Are there economical and efficient alternatives to the baseboard heat that won't drive the cost of the house beyond it's market value? If so, how much of an effort is it to implement the alternative?

Thanks........

    Reasons for keeping BB heat!

!. Drafts. BB heat is usually draftless. that is the air currents are much slower than forced hot air. 2. BB should be a lot more quiet. 3. Usually the temperture difference between the floor and the cieling is much smaller that forced air. 5. BB requiers small pipe as Forced hot air needs large ducts. Inshort, BB heat is more totally comfortable than forced air. Drawbacks? A/C is and must be a seperate consideration. Forced air can handle both, where usually BB is heating only. Installation & design of either job is almost more important that the heat type itself, except for the above advantages of BB heat

    I'm shaking my head

You want to remove the best type of heating there is?????
Spend the labor dollars you were going to spend removing the BB on a better boiler, air eliminator, etc. If you're gonna spend dollars on ductwork for AC, then think about how you'll be able to place the vents in the best location for cooling not for heating. You can get one of those new high velocity AC handlers and use the small tubing ducts and small air vents that look like mini halogen cans, almost invisible. Be happy you have hydronic heating.

    And then there is.....

Ductless tri-zones. Increased cost of equipment will probably offset cost of ductwork, and can be installed in a day or so. No brainer.

If your baseboard is hydronic (water).....

Take a look at some flat panel radiators. Vasco, Myson and Runtal are three manufacturers that offer these. Asthetically pleasing, sturdy and available in a multitude of colors are some reasons to check them out. Also, adding reset technology to your system will increase the radiant affect of the panels. Quiet and efficient.

Fin tube baseboard, while inexpensive, is not my first choice in heat emitters.

    Runtal Low Profile Baseboard

There was an error rendering this rich post.
