The kids installed the tubing in the garage the other day. It's great seeing how they really take pride in their work, especially since I told them their project will be listed on my site for the world to see! If you guys don't mind, I will keep posting progress pictures as the job goes.

    Paying it forward.

I’m on the Occupational Advisory Board at my local vocational school and in an effort to payback some of the good shown me all these years, I am donating my time, tools and some stuff to the project home the entire school builds. These are generally two-year projects and the kids to 90% of all the work entailed in building a house from start to finish. Once completed, the home is sold and the proceeds go into buying more property for the next project and so on. The lot this home sits on was graciously donated by the builder of the development. May have to change my view of builders a bit after this,……………………nah. This development has 300 homes and the project home will be the only one with a boiler let alone radiant. There will be radiant in the basement, garage, baths and kitchen. The rest will be fin tube baseboard. The kids did a great job tubing the basement today and I promised them some world-wide exposure here and on my website.

Life can sure get crazy and busy, but I hope it never gets too busy that I’ll forget about how good it feels to give back a little and show the future generation of technicians what truly is the future.

    School Trades

My high school had that program 25 yrs. ago. Great fun for the students with hefty credits applied towards graduation. I wasn't in the program but knew of it. They built a house a year.
hb, you are awesome for being involved. I'm sure the house will be an island of hydronic happiness in a sea of gfa heated homes. The envy of the neighborhood I'll bet.
It's good to get young people involved. The experience will stay with them regardless of their career choice. How many (male!) owners don't even know how to light a HW pilot light.
This type of program should be available at ALL high schools. Not just vocational schools. Any hands on knowledge gleaned from a jobsite will linger in 16 year old's brain for a while. Invaluable!

    Great exposure

for these kids to radiant. In the night class I teach for my local ACCA chapter, the students are always amazed at the stuff I show them concerning radiant floors. (and they're in 3rd year of their journeymans training.) Many of the companies are just cookie cutter forced air shops. Your kids will not be daunted in the least by radiant systems. Ditto on the house being the only one that's comfortable in the neighborhood. Be on the lookout for retrofit radiant floors in the neighborhood down the road. WW

    Keep posting the pictures.

This is right in line with Dans thinking, and we should be promoting the youth who are doing this work.

Great Work ... Keep it up.

    You guys are the best............

Thanks for the good words about this project. Like I said, I'm honored they have asked me for input. I'm hoping some of the kids are watching this thread, so any words of wisdom you can share with them would be great!
