Lennox nomenclature

Went to bid new a/c system last week. Had tape measure and notebook in hand. Found that cust had "obtained" a used Lennox heat pump system. The lines had been neatly hacksawed and the cased coil was minus the case. Cust said it was a 2-ton setup. Indoor coil looked rather large. Needless to say we declined to install due to suspicious circumstances and the fact that no matter how good the condition of the equipment was supposed to be, any associated problems would fall back on us. Unusual request to be sure. Anyway I did hold a straight face long enough to get the model of the condenser. Any help finding the size would be appreciated. My curiosity won't let me rest until I can find out. No luck at the Lennox web site. I'm pretty sure if they do find someone to connect the stuff it is going to be generously oversized. Thanks for any help and happy Easter to all.

    Here ya go.

The middle number determines the tonage and phase of the unit. Basic rule of thumb is whatever the first two digits of the middle set of numbers is, round down to the common BTU's is. So a -261 unit rounds down to a 24, which would be a two ton unit.

    -211 = 1½ ton

    -261 = 2 ton

    -311 = 2½ ton

    -411 = 3 ton

    -461 = 3½ ton

    -511 = 4 ton

    -651 = 5 ton

Oh, and the last digit determines the phase, a 1 = single phase, and 3 = 3 phase.

And last, the third and fourth digits in the serial determine the year of manufacturer and the letter determines the month (A = January, B = February etc, etc).

    Hope this helps you out.

    Thanks Glenn. Case Closed

I didn't get the serial though but will hang on to this most helpful info.
