orifice traps do they work?

Has anyone got any experiance retrofiting with orifice steam traps?I'm thinking about installing them in two
dormitories.

NO....!
They are an overpriced piece of metal with a hole, and a hot sales pitch. If you have a neuclear sub it's ok, but not in a school. Survey your traps and start a regular maintenance program. Visit the web sites and talk to the local reps for ITT Hoffman, Spirax-Sarco, or Armstrong. Both Hoffman and Spirax have excellent training programs and local reps that can give you and your maintenance staff the right story.

In most cases you don't have to even replace the old traps- you can rebuild them. Tunstall and Barnes & Jones make replacement innards for just about anything out there.

Maybe think about orifice valves instead....
These limit the amount of steam entering the radiation based on pressure, so the traps are nothing but a back up.
