Setting flow on primary loop

No, can't say as I ever have. However, it does look interesting. It also looks rather expensive. I have found that what we disign around and what actually happends in the field are two completely different things, and the one we designed for rarley if ever comes true.

Primary loop flow
I wanted to check and adjust, if necessary, the flow rate
on a primary loop circulator. What would be the easiest way
in your opinion to do this and how would you go about it?
There is no balancing valve on the primary loop to adjust
the flow at present.
Thanks,
Mike Lampkin

Base it on Delta Tea...
Which means, grab yourself a big fat mug of Delta Tea as made by John Siegenthaler, a digital thermometer, a folding easy chair (everyone has one of these in their trucks, right...?) and choke the flow (cause I guarantee the pump is gonna be too big) until you see the differential in temperature you originally planned on having. For a boiler loop, 30 degrees is good. For the main loop, it depends on what you planned on seeing and what the actual conditions are at the time of setting.
Of course, all of this assumes you've tested and tuned the boiler to it's rated efficiency. Once you've got it all fine tuned, kick back, enjoy the sights and sounds of a well planned good working machine, and sip some Delta Tea!!
Happy Delta Tea Hydronicing!!

Enjoyed that Delta-Tea
Hi Mark,
I enjoyed that mug of Delta-Tea, but I may have to check
the ph level, since it was looking a little green. It must
have been left over from the 17-March. Have you ever used
any products, such as FlowGuard, which will also give you
a visual indication and balance the flow at the same time?
I also want to make sure that I'm operating in the middle
of the pump curve, lets say with a flow of 10 gallons that
will produce a Delta-Tea of 30 degrees.
Thanks for the drink,
Mike Lampkin

I like 'em for
setting flow on on injection loops. Really not that expensive in 3/4 & 1" sizes. No reps or dealers in my state so I can buy direct from www.istec-corp.com
May be get a better price from a wholesale supplier.

Nice Application
I really like the idea of seeing what's going on with
the flow and being able to fine tune the system. Thanks
for the good pics.
