Before starting a job, do you get signed contracts from your customers or general contractors?. Do you lay out work done in a manner that says. "tubing to be installed on "xx" centers", outdoor reset and controls to be installed in such a manner or in accordance with installation instructions? Boiler to be installed to meet code and provide "X" % efficiency? How detailed are your contracts? Do you also lay out the guidelines for receiving payment?

Do you handwrite your contracts or is there a good template that you are using? Any items come back and "Bite" someone in the margin because it wasn't in the contract? What comes to mind is if someone vandalizes your tubing before or after a concrete pour, and you now have a dozen repairs to make. Who pays?

I am gathering this info for several reasons, mostly as a service to my contractors I design and sell for.

    Check out

the Watts Radiant Works software program. The Assumption Reports handle this nicely, including a place for the owner to sign indicating they agree to the input info.

I like to sit down with the owners and go over this report showing alll the input info regarding windows, insulation, and floor coverings.

Especially important for the rooms that end up carpeted that you were told would be bare slabs :)

A contract certainly is a good way to protect your interests. I'd custom build one to your application, the generic "office supply" ones don't go far enough for speciality trades, I feel.

Depending how official you want to be, you might consult with an attorney to custom build a contract form for you. They speak the lingo best :(

    our

insurance company STRONGLY recommends we use one any time we do any install work. I usually just make one that the customer can sign.
