    Teledyne Laars JVh/i

Went to a friends house to night..he asked me to check out his boiler because it was making strange houling sounds. It is a teledyne laars JVi 100 mini combo.
I only had a short time and they have heat and hot water but noticed that off the venting the installer reduced from the 4" to 3". Ialso noticed that it short cycled a lot.,
    Any thoughts.. TIA kpc

i also have a tlyedyne lars set up have no promblems but have seen what your talking about ,probaly needs a by pass looking at the instruction they give a complete outline of piping dtails if not followed you will have alot of noise and short cycling check water pressure and circulator, expansion tank also seen a few and usally it,s the fact that's there no by pass these boiler require that there is good flow through them what type of heater are there the water passes could be clogged good luck

    Sounds like

the boiler is pipes wrong. If the temperature drop is too high across the heat exchanger these boilers will make those howling noises.

A by-pass or primary/secondary piping will fix the problem.
