If you have never read this amazing story, get the book.

This is an unbelievable story of mans ability to endure any hardship. They had to throw away unneccesary articles to survive, but Shackelton to his photographer to save his glass plate photos " or this will all be for naught ".

The photos alone are worth the it.

The most amazing part of his story was that he did not lose on single soul during the whole ordeal. Once he got his crew to a safe island he had to sail hundreds of miles across the open ocean without a compass or charts. If we were off course by 1 degree he would have missed the whalers island by 200 miles. Once on the island they had to mountian climb over 5,000 foot ranges without gear. Then to sail back to save his crew it took three times before they could land.

His story is the best I ever read. And I just found out that their is a book about the supply ship that was lost that was to cache supplies on the away leg of the Trans-Antartic crossing.
