Contractors and Mold

How are other contractors protecting themselfs from liabilty
from mold that has grown because they waited to call for repairs. I am reading articles about lawsuits against contractors that made repairs then were sued for not warning
customers. Does anyone have a policy for avoiding liabilty?

    Something is Smelly

I think it's the mold, but I'm not sure.

My observation: As a Contractor I am either cancelled by my insurance company or my rates are dramatically increased. Reason cited by Insurance Company is "Mold".

Then look at your new policy and anything to do with a mold claim is not covered. Sounds like a good deal for somebody.

    mold

Last year we started to tell our customers if they had mold in their air handlers to call a duct cleaner to look at it. We told them not to run the system until they did and had them sign a ticket. The problem is there are no real rules out there to protect us. However one of our customers had a company come to check the system out who quoted over $35,000 to make the house mold free( this was a real company with a enviornmental hygenist who worked up a protocol for renediation). The first thing their insurance company asked was if we left the unit running after we found the mold. I think we know what that ment eh? PS. I was also at the mold seminar at ISHNA and it was an eye opener. Mick
