Steam boiler replacement
Not a LWCO in sight . The system got so hot , it turned the 2 inch header pipe blue somehow . That is Ken and Sal breaking it down . The 2nd pic is of a wet return abandoned 10 years ago . The sediment dried in the ell and pipe solidly .

The new system
A Peerless ECT 3 , and we started using the pressuretrols with mercury - whats old is new again . We added a main vent at the end of the dry return also . This system was all one pipe , and a few rooms had 8 feet + of cast iron baseboard . The living room was wrapped in it , so we stuck around for a while , skimmed the boiler and flushed the returns . The house heated fine and no vomiting of the vents .0 -
Couple Questions
looks great Ron.Why did you go back to merc. pressuretrols? Were you having the same problems we were that you couldn't set them low enough and they seemed to stick? And was it OEM or did you replace what was on it? And why the 67 float and not a probe? Doesn't fuel line need to be sleeved where you are? Just wondering how they do it in other parts of the country. Thanks Dave Palmer0 -
Nice job, as usual
I would consider that old boiler a murder victim. How many techs have worked on it and never mentioned the missing LWCO? Lucky it didn't explode!

Dave , we went back
to the mercury switches because of the same problem you've been having with the PA404 - unless the cut in was set at 3 psi. , it wouldnt work . I've been pushing for 2 probe LWCOs on steam boilers for elderly people who can't get to the boiler easy , or for absentee landlords . Every once in a while we get a homeowner who never flushed out the 67 on the old system . Personally , I like to see one of each - a 67 and a probe as a backup . With the oil line , it doesnt have to be sleeved here , but some towns want it cemented to the floor . Thanks alot Dave .0 -
Im sure the missing
LWCO was noticed and brought to the attention of the homeowner , more than a few times . I believe she simply didnt want to pay to have one installed on the old boiler . And of course , the inevitable occured . Before working on Long Island , we did quite a few steam replacements in NYC , and its hard to believe how many steam boilers are running without a LWCO . Thanks Steamhead .0 -
What about installing some cement board on that wood next to the flue. Or is it not as close as it looks to the wood.0 -

meant by penny wise and dollar foolish????!!!! Nice work Ron... What is with the Taco relay? is there some baseboard somewhere? It still is strange seing that tankless w/o a tempering valve... I know its not your call... great job! kpc0
