Bosch heat source

There are several units simalar to the Aquastar on the market that people are mistaking for boilers. Using these types of water heaters in heating systems is like using a Yugo to haul lumber. Use an MZ. With its proven history and flawless design there is not a better suited boiler for a residence the size of the one your describing. Wall hung, sizes 94k single stage and 142k two stage. Perfect for low temp radiant and preforms great for DHW and high temp applications. Fully condensing 20+ year history, near zero failure rate. The boiler costs more up frount, but the the installed cost is down in most cases due to the many built in features. I guarentee you'll have a customer that thanks you!

    Ideas?

A customer has asked about the Bosch wall hung water heater being used as a radiant heat source. It is my view that the heating should be primary - DHW production secondary. But looking at his sketches - this may work. Heat loss calculations are still on the designers desk - so heat required is not yet known - but it is about a 3000 sq ft floor plan. Comments? Ideas? Any experience doing it this way?

Flash water heaters used as boilers

Be careful using appliance in this type of application. This type of heat exchanger is not designed to operate for extended periods and with possible low return temperatures causing boiler condensation, this could cause the flue ways in the heat exchanger to plug. There have been a couple of deaths in Canada attributed to CO poisoning from this type of heating installation. Best way to go would be to use a boiler with a heat exchanger designed for a heating application and depending where you are located it will probably need to have an 'H' stamp.

    Seiscos

Watts radiant uses SEISCO's on their pre-made panels. Check out the websites.

    Thanks -

for the info and thoughts. As I said - I am not convinced that the Bosch is the right equipment here. Customer is clearly price motivated and doesn't understand all the facts - yet. I can see where this might be ok for a small addition - but to be main source for 3000 sq ft? Maybe not.
