Adding Fin baseboard with a cast iron system?

To help reduce the pressure drop problem described above you could try commerical or light commerical baseboard that has a large pipe diameter....1 inch or 1 1/4 inch. Also since cast iron radiators hold heat longer than light weight baseboard, you will want to keep the water circulating constantly so the stored heat in the radiators can be transfered to the baseboard between burner cycles. Soooo much to watch out for!

Adding Fin baseboard with a cast iron system?

Can I add fin baseboard to a single pipe monoflo system. The rest of the radiators on that zone are all cast iron? Thanks

    Monoflow baseboard

Anthony be careful here. You can add the baseboard as long as the pressure drop through it is equal to the radiation that you are removing. If the baseboard and it's piping is more restritive the water won't want to divert that way and will leave you with a cold baseboard. In short, small lengths work but longer lengths don't and typically you will need alot of b.b. to equal the output of that old radiator. One way around this is sometimes on smaller zones if you really need all that b.b. you can run it as part of the main but this to can be tricky. Hope this helps, good luck

    Why not

use cast-iron baseboard, as made by Burnham, Slant/Fin or Weil-McLain? It will hold its heat just like those cast-iron radiators do, and I think its internal resistance is lower too.

    The output from the two

are actually pretty close. The problem is the flywheel effect from the cast iron holding the heat better than the bang/bang, off/on, output from the copper finned tubing.

As a rule I never combine the two in a zone. Yes it can been done but there allways seems to be a balance issuie.
