Auto water feeders

since you have to blow down a #67 lwco anyway, does it make any sense to add an auto water feeder?

  • depends on the school of thought

..some say no, cause having to blow down and monitor water forces the owner to look at their boiler. some say yes, but not as a convience item, but as a back-up safty item...tho, many of these back up safty items have flooded a boiler.

    What I do....

Is install the auto feeder, but tell the homeowner to keep it valved off unless they go on vacation. I tell them that if a leak goes undetected because an auto feeder is masking it, they could end up spending alot of money on another new boiler much sooner than they want. After spending a fair piece of change already on the boiler just put in, they are more likely to take this advice.... at least for a while.

    auto feeders

Sell them the feeder as a back up safety device and have them hand feed it off the feeder itself.

We install the Hydrolevel autofeeder on our steam boilers. You preset the amount of feed and the time delay to wait for condensate to return. It also has a digital display that shows how much water is being added. We solved many flooding problems with this unit. Educate your customer to watch it and teach them about the sequence of operation. It's fascinating to most of them and gives them something to get in front of the boiler for.
