Takagi

installation of a Takagi TK-2 and it seems as though the power has been going out quite often; sounds like a distict is having capacity problems. The owners want to know if there is some inexpensive generator around that could provide enough power to run the Takagi; it only uses .8 amps (110 volt).

Has anyone had experience with this?

    Small gen set

During the ice storm here (N.C.) in early Dec. I ran my boiler, refrigerator and freezer with a small (one man can tote it)gen. set. The boiler is a WM Gold gas with the electronic stuff. Every night my son-in-law would take the gen. set over to his house and run his 'scorched air' gas long enough to keep the plb from freezing. Everything worked fine. We had disconnected each system from the commercial power just to be safe. Probably should put in a double throw disconnect if something permanent is rigged for a gen. set in the future just to make it impossible to be connected to both power grids at the same time. Keep it
simple and safe. The gen set is an old Hobart 20 amp,110 volt,Briggs&Straton driven, rope start. Will run 3 hours on 1/2 gal. of gasoline.

    Hi Alan

A small gen is a good idea, but you might hook up the the T-K2 to an inexpensive-but-fairly-large-capacity UPS (battery powered inverter). Solar-charged, even. The choices are endless.

Brian of tankless fame (in my own mind) in SW Louisiana :O) Takagi rules.

A solar-powered inverter sounds like the bees knees; where do I find one?

    All the best,

    Alan

    Dear Sir Alan of Forbes

Google will bring oodles of info "solar power inverters", but "Stiebel Eltron" is way ahead of the game in solar panels and electric tankless water heaters etc'.

    Cheers mate.

    Swampy.
