Promix 101

We have 2 promix 101's on seperate systems. Both ran last year and this season without any complaints. We got calls from both customers tuesday saying that their floors are cold and not maintainig temp. None of the controllers settings have been changed. It seems that the controllers want to keep closing off the hot side of the 3 way. One has the silver cover on the 3 way (erie?). The other is a newer style (blue cover).
We got a replacement motor and pc board from Wirsbo for the silver covered one and it keeps doing the same thing. It seems that when we turn off the power and restart, the valve tries to recalibrate itself but it closes the hot side and will not go back the other way. The gear that drives the actuator just keeps clicking as it tries to close the valve further. The one with the blue 3 way wants to close the hot side after resart too. I'm pretty sure both valves are acting the same way but I can't figure out whats causing it. Also noticed that Wirsbo is now selling a completely different 3 way valve than the ones we have out there (6 total).Thats got me worried about fixing these systems and the availability of parts. Could the problem be with the valves internal flapper? could it fail after 1 or two years? For now we took off the valves motor and manually set them to maintain an acceptable supply temp.

    101

if you are getting acceptable results manually I would think that part of the valve of is ok. Look around the job to see if there have been any alterations since the install or when the system was working to your satisfaction.

    Sensors

Also check the NTC thermistor sensors, I have sold a lot of those units (old style 101) and had some minor problems with them being faulty. The sensors in question do not have the protective shell around them as such and over-tightening the zip ties could crush them pretty easily. I recall they are not inexpensive either.

Let me know if I can help further.

    similar promix 101 problems

I'm having a similar problem with an old Wirsbo promix 101 (P/N A3091000/A3091250). It is being used to mix water for radiant under wood floors in a multi-temperature setup using outdoor reset. It worked fine last year, but this year it is not opening the hot water side of the mixing valve. I read 24 volts on the "close" line but nothing on the "open".

I can't even find the right manual. It seems the new "Promix 101" is completely different but they did not bother to change the name or number! Anyone have any ideas or a link to the old manual?

    Thanks,
    Tim

    Invensys

Find the nearest Invensys dealer around you. Uponor (formerly Wirsbo) OEM'd them from Erie which is now owned by Invensys.

The older style 3-way valves are still available. Uponor has since switched to Belimo.

Hope this helps. Way to search the archives for help.

Did Invensys make the controller? The Erie valve seems to work fine: it opens when I switch the "close" wire with the "open". The problem is the ProMix 101 is only sending the close.
