2\" Union on Steam Riser

We have to move an exposed two-inch steam riser to a new location inside the wall. This is a one pipe low pressure steam heating system. The architect doesn't want a union behind the wall. What would you use instead, staying with the same black pipe, and is a union the wrong fitting in the first place?
Thanks, Tony

moving riser into wall
we have had a butt weld connection done when its in a wall and this ensures no leak0 -
Can you put a coupling
in the wall and move the union close to the near boiler piping?
