no air vents

I worked on a system today that we have been taking care of for ten years. The unit has a header with 8-1/2" lines going out to baseboard registers and no bleeders, no manual or automatic bleeders. As far as i can tell there is no way to bled system. Has a steel expansion tank. Homeowner has been there 40 years and never had a problem. Its very quiet with no air. How does it work?

    the steel...

expansion tank is the clue. It serves as the air removal tool. If set up right and no auto vents added it will be great.kpc
