\"Air\" in older hot water system

30 year old system has developed a big air problem. Simple baseboard system on first floor. Basement was heated with copper tube in the slab until it started leaking last year. Basement floor has been isolated from system, but the system loads up with air on a daily basis. No apparent leaks. Nothing has changed in the last 20 years except the leaks and cutting off that part of the system. Where is the air coming from? Someone suggested putting TSP in the system?

possibly
You may be incurring oxygen due to low/neg pressures @ Pump. I bet the pump is on the return side of boiler & there may even be an auto air vent real close to the suction end.
Pump away!

How was the basement isolated? If a simple shutoff valve was used, and the basement tubing was drained, is it possible the shutoff valve is not holding?
Also, was the system designed (pump, expansion tank, etc) to include the basement as part of the system? Was the basement part of a single zone system, or was it a zone on it's own?
