If you are looking at a system similar to ones that I've seen in my area, you may be puzzled by the location of the pressure switch. Some tanks have it mounted on the side outlet of a tee and it looks like it's on the overflow/ return pipe. If this is the case, what is actually going on inside the tank is that there is an internal tube from the bottom of the tee which goes to the top of the tank. The tank fills up around this tube and the weight of the oil in the tank can be sensed by the pressure switch. The switch is very sensitive and will turn the pump off when the oil is just a few inches above it. If the switch fails, when the oil reaches the top of the overflow tube it will gravity feed through the inside pipe and back to the tank. Hope this helps.0
