Steam Boiler Ignores Thermostat!

Greetings,

I am a new owner of a home with a steam heat system. The system also runs hot water baseboard in one room. My problem is that the system runs, even when the temp is well above the thermostat setting for the steam system.

There is also a thermostat for the hot water baseboard room, and I thought that this might be the problem - but the system turns on even when the temp in both rooms is above the setting.

The boiler is 1.5 years old (Peerless) - oil fired.

The thermostat is brand new - thought the old one was the problem - not!

There is a 30 gal water tank attached to the system - a booster tank.

What could this be?

    Something was changed,

somewhere you have a "call"(switch failed closed) for steam and it shouldn't be. You need to decide if you know enough to track it down or call a pro. If you just bought the house, maybe you can pass the cost back? Sorting out the circuits and shutting down things one at a time until the culpret is found may take a while.
    Good luck

Do you also get your hot water from unit?
