Warmboard under power ! (hr)

An infrared taken after 2 hours of run time. The cold spots, mid way, are where I routered through the aluminum layer for a demo. This camera was sensitive enough to pick up the carpet fibers as they warmed and conducted the heat!

On the ThermoFin transfer plate pictures it showed the screws I used to mount the tracks!

    Still testing

The pictures that come fromthe camera are crystal clear. This is actually a fuzzy (purposely) picture of my monitor. The good stuff will be shown at the RPA in May.

I have tested staple up rubber, suspended pex, pex in ThermoFin, Warmboard, and for kicks, copper in Thermofin. Thus far I have shot start up, 1 hour, and two hour run times. This coming week I will shoot some 8 hour run times.

The camera does a real good job of showing temperatures and the eveness of the heat spread. For me, and hopefully others, the pictures paint a better visual than graphs and numbers on paper. More of a real time, birdseye view :)

    Kinda....

Looks like the picture on the signs when I come into town on a hot /cold day that remind us to conserve energy.

The town I'm in has its own power plant and the guy (with the fingers and eyeys showing over the baseline.... reminds us all not to peak) A couple of stratagically placed heat sinks would make it look like some fingers).

Keep the photos coming , it keeps us all thinking . Chris

    What are the temperature values?

    Hot Rod,

What are the range of temperatures? What's the temperature difference between yellow and blue?

    Excellent post!

  • Neat perspective.

When we were using a black and white infrared camera at the school, we had to climb up on a ladder to get the clarity/resolution/definition we needed. It obviously looks like thats not necessary with your camera. Whose camera and how much per day $?

    Also have

some aerial shots taken from a ladder showing all 5 panels in one shot. Hard to argue with the pictures once you see them.

The camera is fairly new and pretty high dollar, about 75 thousand dollars worth! Costs me 90 bucks an hour with a skilled operator. This gal has been doing this since 1980. The camera is owned by the local utility company. They use it for transformers and powerlines, but rent it out often to check pumps and motors at large manufactures locally. They have a telephoto lens and a mount on top of a van for powerline work.

The RPA is considering purchasing one and renting it to members. It would be an excellent trouble shooting tool for leaks, and determining loop location, spacing and lengths for those "inherited problem jobs"

    Actually

the better shots have a small color graph included in the picture. It shows the low and high temperature colors.

Also on some shots we used crosshairs to pinpoint temperatures over the tube and also the supply and return to show delta t on every panel. I've got 2 hours worth of taping to weed through and pick out the best shots. I'll tape 2 more hours to fine tune and cover items I missed. Also a longer run time will be shot.

Of course I taped my radiant counter top, radiant dog, towel bars, bathroom floors, all the pets and people in the office, my boilers, etc, etc :) One of my old dogs has arthritis and the camera really showed these hot spots in her legs :(
