Posing a ?? to you wallies

I have been working with a client who had his general contractor have a sub install a radiant system in a fully remodeled house. I now have replaced a boiler that was illegal for use in our city. Also I installed an inderect watet heater so they could finally have hot water after 3 mos. On top of this all, the ???? is, house with appx 1000 ft per floor on upper 2 floors and 1 basement in slab radiant tube. The rest staple up. Tell me this, there are a total of 5 loops for the whole house. Supposedly on 8" centers(the house is finished you know. Simple calculations tell me that the tube is way strung out. Totally improper install. Would you not agree, hold his feet to the fire.

    5 loops...

sounds more than questionable. I'd start up the system and check for the temperture drop across the loops once the system is stabilized. It's probably huge! Also, I'd get a copy of the design info...if there ever was a design done. sounds like you have a real mess.

    Define Loop.

If the tube is installed in lengths longer than 200 - 300 feet, depending on the diameter, you may need to start over. At a reasonable velocity the heat is all gone by the time you get to that length. I had a wholesaler ask what size pump to use on a 2000 foot piece of 3/4" PEX buried in a slab. I told him to cut the hose off at the concrete and sell the customer overhead radiant.
