I'm looking to buy some veco traps

I've been going through the building and adding up the EDR. Over the years, some of the original VECO orifice-type traps have been replaced with 17C and No. 8 thermostatic element traps (however, most of the elements are long gone!). I would like to get the system back to it's designed operation. If any of you have these lovely little devices (VECO or Broomell) weighing down your trucks, tool boxes, or 5 gallon spackle buckets and would prefer a few bucks in your wallet, email me directly at eholtman@rcn.com. Much appreciation and many thanks.

If you can't find those water-seal units

just put new elements in the thermostatic traps and the system should work fine. The bottom line is, something has to stop the steam from reaching the dry returns. Either Broomell/Veco water seals or thermostatic traps will do this.

    Will the elements last?

My question is this: if the system has a mix of veco type water seals and element traps, that means that steam is, by design, living in the returns (via the orifice in the water seals). I thought (from 'the lost art') that steam on the return side of traps ruins the elements.

  • no steam in the returns

the steam that passes through that little hole condenses right away. It has to for there to be a difference in pressure between the radiator and the return pipe. The size of the hole makes it so.
