How about all the chips that get left in the pipe? I have been cutting with a large tubing cutter, hence the burr.

Prepping pipe
With an up coming large project with alot of piping, I was looking to improve my techniques. First, is cleaning up the burrs left inside large diameter copper tubing (2 1/2 inch to 4 inch) after cutting. On smaller sizes I use a regular steel pipe deburring tool, but how about these big sizes? I've been filing them....takes to long.
Also, I clean my oily threads with wet rag of lacquer thinner before applying tape and dope. Any better, safer techniques? I don't like the idea of handling laquer thinner and gloves are not easy to work with. Thanks all for helping me do a better job.

Chop it, pro!
Are you using a dry cut saw with a sharp blade? Shouldn't have much of a burr. nothing a pocket knife couldn't handle.
A bundle of dry rags work to dry warm oily pipe. Depending on the type of pipe sealent you use. My thoughts, anyways.

Zip-Burr tool
Try a Zip-Burr or Routo-Burr tool. Available from any machine shop supply house or check the current Grainger catalog #394, page 1416. About $8.00. These little tools are really slick and fun to use.

Go to: http://www.ridgid.com/index3.html and check out the Model 122 cutting and prepping machine. When we started to get into fabing boiler rooms, I purchased one of these babies and my guys have raved about it. A real time saver. Not cheap, but what of any value is? You get what you pay for, hopefully!

We bought a new Rigid Model 122 copper cutting machine and our guys love it. They have really picked up the pace on a large project we have renovating a county jail. The cost is around $1200, but I am sure by the end of this job it will be paid for with labor savings. Check it out on the Rigid web site.0 -
