PRESSURE TOO HIGH!?

We have a client with a residential steam boiler that is producing steam to the point where the radiator valves are hissing. I set the Pressurettrol to .5# and cleaned the pigtail but the gauge is still hitting about 3#!? Could it be anything other than a bad Pressuretrol?

Does the Pressuretrol
actually stop the burner at 3 pounds? If so, either the Pressuretrol or the gauge is not accurate. If not, the Pressuretrol is probably bad but it could also be a wiring problem.

Main Vent
If the guage is bad and the pressuretrol is ok, I would check the main vent. It lets most of the air out so if its not working then the radiator valves have to do its job.You know what happens when you have to do some one elses job don't you? most of us Hiss and moan!

Pressure too high
Hi,
Is the pressuretrol set to the pigtail in the correct orientation so that the pigtail under pressure and heat hasn't tilted the pressuretrol and upset the reading?0 -
Your pressuretrol is doing you a favor by shutting off. Crank that pressure down. Why do you need 5#. Residential systems don't need more than 2psi. Set that control to cut off a 2psi and cut on at 0.5psi. Afterall low pressure steam will not only move faster it will also take less time to make and won't drive the water back up the returns. Those dead men that installed that system never intended it to be run at more than 2psi, after all coal was expensive.0
